SPORT and PHYSICAL EDUCATION (PE)

Sport and physical activity is crucial for every child’s development and at Bronte every year group enjoys a variety of PE, from team games to dance. In the younger years skills in co-ordination and control are developed, extending as children get older to athletic activities and a number of inter-school competitions in basketball, netball, 4square and tag rugby, in which Bronte enjoys considerable success.

Swimming starts in Year 1. Children are taught a variety of means of propulsion to develop effective and efficient swimming strokes during their swimming lessons.

Athletic activities include running, including cross country, throwing and jumping, gaining experience of competition both inside and outside school. In gymnastics children are guided to perform in a controlled manner, developing core strength and British Gymnastics Awards skills, both on and off the apparatus.

For team games, children gain an understanding of common skills and principles for invasion games, net and wall games, and striking and fielding games. In dance the children experience different styles and have the opportunity to create their own sequences of movement.
