Reception Homework

Reading
In Reception class we ask that parents support children in developing a love of books and in becoming an emergent reader themselves.
Each week the children will bring home different books. Some from our book corner, are to be enjoyed as stories with children being read to, perhaps as a bedtime story.

Other books are for the children to begin to decode themselves. Support your child in reading these regularly. Use the guidance provided in your child’s reading record book, and please comment/sign to let us know your child has read with you. Children need to read the same book more than once to support them in developing decoding skills, fluency and expression as well as understanding.

We will also send home:

  • Phonics handouts – These will provide information about the letters/sounds we are learning about in class. Please look at these regularly with your child to ensure they are confident.
  • Key words handouts – These are high frequency words that children need to learn to recognise. Many of them aren’t phonetically plausible, such as ‘the’, ‘said’, ‘you’. Again please look at these regularly with your child.

Show and Share
We will sometimes ask children to bring in objects from home to support our learning. These are often themed.

Summer Term
The children will bring home a set of 5 key word spelling to learn each week. Please support your child in learning how to spell and write cursively.
